For the ninth year, the principal sponsor of the 176th Australia Day Regatta, the world’s oldest continuously-conducted annual sailing regatta, is the nation’s great financial institution, the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, through its Commonwealth Private Bank.
The Bank, as an Australian institution, says that Australia Day is an important day to reflect on our nation’s heritage and what we have achieved since the First Fleet entered the shimmering waters of beautiful Sydney Harbour. We do this with respect to the prior history of this land before the First Fleet.
“Australia Day gives all Australians, regardless of age or cultural background, the opportunity to embrace the true Aussie spirit of coming together and striving towards one people,” writes Adrian Hondros, Executive General Manager, Commonwealth Private Bank, in a Sponsor’s Message.
The Australian Defence Forces have also been long-time supporters of the Australia Day Regatta, especially the Royal Australian Navy in providing a Flagship, but also the Royal Australian Air Force with its spectacular flyovers by fighter aircraft and the Royal Australian Army with its Red Beret parachutists and Artillery salute.
The City of Sydney and the Australia Day Council have continued their support for the 2012 Australia Day Regatta.
Generous support for the 2012 program also came from the AW Edwards Group, MacDiarmid Sails, Treharne Moorings, Hardy Wines, the Manly Boatshed, Catalina Yachts, Coursemaster Autopilots and Winning Appliances, with the Commonwealth Private providing considerable support in the printing.
Members of the Advisory Council and the Management Committee have generously contributed to the production of Red Ensigns (Australia’s National Maritime flag) to be flown by competitors in the Regatta.
